  • iPad: Thoughts and Concerns

The iPad is here! At least in the US. Us English have to wait another month or so for it.

As with most Apple products it is very popular, it is reported they have sold 300,000 units. But I’m not so sure about it.

The interface is all nice and shiny, and I’m sure the whole thing is very smooth and easy to use. The screen is very nice, but I’m sure that all new tablets will have simmilar ones.

But I still take an objection to the closed platform, it’s just not right to have a device and not be able to put your own applications on. I imagine the lack of flash and multitasking would get rather annoying too. Also the price, Apple products are always more expensive than equivalent products from other vendors.

I think that tablet’s are amazing devices, and I’d love to use one. But I don’t think the iPad is the tablet that I will buy. My perfect tablet would be an Android tablet, but with a new interface,  I’m not sure how well Android now would scale to a large screen. At a much lower price too, around £200-300 seems reasonable. I’d probably consider an iPad if it was in this range, but that’ll never happen…

I will definitely keeping an eye on the Notion Ink Adam, it looks like a very promising device.
